On the road, we consume TONS of podcasts.
Here are a few of my favorites.

Reply All
I’m so jealous of the person who has never listened to this podcast, the person who has the opportunity to start the back catalog from episode one. Once I was that person, and I’m jealous of past me. RIP, Reply All.
Some of my favorite episodes:
- #102 Long Distance and #103 Long Distance, Part II – these were the first episodes I heard that really drew me in to the show.
- #17 The Time Traveler And The Hitman
- #29 The Takeover – kids play office, adults take over, adults ruin everything.
- #105 At World’s End and #158 The Case of the Missing Hit – who hasn’t tried to find something – a game, a song – they enjoyed when they were younger?
- #129 Autumn – this one made me cry a lot, but it was a sad happy happy sad cry.
- #167 America’s Hottest Talkline
ICYMI
(In case you missed it) – like listening to your two funniest friends talk about social and tech.
Heavyweight
As long as you don’t mind reaching for the tissues while you’re driving, or sitting on a plane next to strangers, or working around other people, you can listen to this podcast. Be careful, please! New episodes are only available on Spotify (dislike restrictions!), but you can still catch old episodes on all the other podcast apps.
Some of my favorite episodes:
- #6 James
- #16 Rob
- #23 Alex – this is where I started.
- #25 Becky and Jo
- #32 Vivian
- #36 Brandon
This American Life
An obvious choice, but what lover of great story-telling podcasts could fail to mention it?! Not this one.
Some of my favorite episodes:
- 24 Hours at the Golden Apple – gives me real Chicago nostalgia.
- Rest Stop – you’ll never look at a rest area the same way again.
- Road Trip!
- And, they have an entire section devoted to recommendations!
Snap Judgement
I love Snap’s interesting and musical stories. These stories stick with me for a long time. I also listened closely to Snap when I was starting my own podcast, to learn from how they used sound, which made me appreciate this show even more than before, if that’s even possible!
Some of my favorite episodes:
- The Pink Palace, Belly of the Beast and Double Trouble – stories of adventures gone horribly wrong, but still ending up alright. Mostly.
- This Is Not A Drill
- The Census Powwow
- Hair Battle
- The North Pond Hermit
- Chasing Thunder
- Radio 77
The Journal
My favorite of the many daily news pods for their dinner-length dive into a current topic every day that’s just the right balance of informative and entertaining.
Vice News Reports
Vice News Reports is a current-events podcast tackling a new subject every week (with a decidedly Vice-voice).
Some of my favorite episodes:
Limited Series
I would LOVE to hear your suggestions for other podcasts I should check out! I’m always looking for something new to enjoy.
